In a gripping contest that lasted two hours and 39 minutes, Sinner faced a tough challenge from the Argentine World No. 37. This match marked Sinner’s second win over Etcheverry in their ATP Head2Head encounters.
“It was a very tough match, physically and mentally, so I am very happy to get through this one,” Sinner reflected after the victory. He acknowledged the difficulty of the first set, stating, “I had my chances, but sometimes you have to wait for the right moment. Staying calm mentally was the key today.”
The match began with both players demonstrating their skills, with Etcheverry saving two set points to push the first set into a tie-break. There, he capitalized on his opportunities, clinching the set 7-6(3). However, Sinner came back strong in the second set, overcoming a brief exchange of breaks to level the match.
In the final set, after saving three break points in the opening game, Sinner broke through Etcheverry’s defenses, maintaining momentum to secure the win.
Next, Sinner will face either Roberto Carballes Baena or Ben Shelton in the fourth round. A potential rematch against Shelton would add another layer of excitement, as Shelton triumphed in their previous encounter at last year’s Shanghai Masters.
